Energy Pricing & TariffsPPA has undertaken a number of electricity tariff studies in Africa and the Caribbean. To conduct such studies, the company is able to draw on in-house models for least-cost expansion, cost allocation and financial analysis. In relation to these studies, PPA has managed extensive surveys of customers, in order to define the parameters of tariff structures to incorporate “lifeline” blocks for low-income customers.PPA has also undertaken electricity pricing studies for off-grid systems in rural areas in developing countries, where the structures and regulatory regimes have to balance the conflicting demands for cost recovery and accessibility. PPA has considerable experience in transmission pricing studies, most notably for the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP), where the company has been assisting the Coordination Committee on a regular basis for several years. PPA has also undertaken netback pricing studies to establish the equalising price of gas that would make gas-fuelled power projects economic. The company has been involved with numerous gas-to-electricity studies in Asia, Africa and Latin America, typically assisting developers in establishing the market for electricity from power projects based on new gas-field developments. |
