PPA has specialist international expertise in the provision of advice to government and power utility clients for the development of workable and efficient methods of restructuring the operation of the power sector to facilitate commercialisation and/or private sector participation.

This expertise is built on strong technical knowledge, an in-depth understanding of the commercial and regulatory issues in power market operation, and hands-on involvement in power sector restructuring projects worldwide. We have particular expertise in advising on electricity market rules and operating processes, including experience in metering and data collection issues and the development of ancillary services markets.

In the area of power sector development, our services include the long term least-cost investment planning for the power sector, including demand forecasting, evaluation of alternative energy sources, generation, transmission and distribution of energy, reliability assessments, energy pricing, tariff design, economic and financial analysis. In addition, we are experienced in undertaking scenario-based indicative planning, of the type that has become prevalent in deregulated markets. This approach concentrates on the identification of feasible alternative development paths and the highlighting of the risks and opportunities for different power sector players associated with each.

The principal staff of PPA are all experienced in the provision of training and technology transfer in connection with these services and have run courses both in the UK and overseas.
